Welcome! I hope this will become a useful site for you as you look for in-depth information on destinations you might be interested in. I will paint an intimate portrait of some of the countries I have visited, the cities, the people, the land and the abundance of wildlife. The posts are thoroughly researched and annotated, with links to original references and bibliography. The links I provide are credible and useful. I am scrupulous about the information I post here.

This site is meant for serious, well-informed travelers who wish to find out more about destinations they are planning to visit. The content is based on a combination of my personal experience and my own research on what has been written about such destinations by professionals in scientific, peer-reviewed journals. The images you will see in my blog posts or galleries at SmugMug and Alamy are those I have shot during my travels. This is not your usual travel blog.

I exclusively use Canon products. Most of the images have been shot with the incredible 21 MP Canon 5D Mark II DSLR and the tack-sharp 70-200 mm F/2.8L II IS USM telephoto zoom lens, the exceptional Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L USM Super Telephoto Lens, and a Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod.

Recently I have switched to a Canon 5DSR DSLR which has a whopping 50.6 megapixel full frame sensor. I have added a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens and a Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM II Super Telephoto Lens to my collection of Canon lenses.
