One of Kerala’s unique attractions

The “backwaters” of Kerala, India, consist of a complex network of canals, rivers, lakes and inlets, extending to more than 900 km of waterways. You can rent a kettuvallam, which is a Kerala houseboat, and gently cruise through this labyrinth of waterways while enjoying scrumptious seafood caught by local fisherman and prepared on board by an expert resident chef on the houseboat. An elegantly furnished bedroom for the night with a modern en-suite bathroom makes this a very civilized way to spend a few days in Kerala.

Throw a fresh Kerala shrimp on the barbie

We stopped at a village on the edge of one of the canals to pick up fresh shrimp which were the size of a lobster. Our chef prepared a South Indian style lunch with shrimp as the main course, washed down with chilled beer. Unbelievably delicious!
